I don’t know about you but my life sure is busy these days. With appointments, tasks, family, and other responsibilities the time to get it all done seems to be lacking. Unfortunately with everything that is going on in all of our lives it can get our priorities out of whack. It is not intentional it just happens.
I’ll be honest for me when things are going a million miles and hour the first thing to go is my consistent time with the Lord. I am willing to admit that to you because, I’d be willing to bet, you are the same way. If there is one thing I have learned over and over again it is that we are never alone in our struggles. Whether that is a temptation to sin or a temptation to just glance over your time with God.
No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13
There is an interesting account in Exodus 3. Moses has been driven from Egypt and begins his new life in Midian. Moses became content or satisfied with his new life. The problem was God had more for him than to just live a content life full of sheep in Midian.
You know the story. Moses is going through his normal routine and God showed up. Not in the way you would expect, because God is like that, but in a burning bush. God was drawing moses to Himself and had Moses simply continued on the path down his satisfied, content life he would have missed the amazing journey ahead.
Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned. When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.”” Exodus 3:1-5
There have been times in my life where I have seen an opportunity to meet with God and I have “passed by” instead of “turned aside”. It may be a while down the road that I realize what happened but I regret it every time. I wonder if you have done the same thing.
Can you think of a time when you heard God calling you to do something and you just passed by? God could have called you to witness to someone at the gas station, help someone on the side of the road, call a friend, or simply asked you to stop and sit in His presence. I Just know that all too often I continue on with my own agenda instead of allowing God to have his way.
Be encouraged today. We have all been there. Today make a decision to be aware of the times God may be calling you to “turn aside”.
That’s all for now,
