This is all going to seem pretty basic today but that does not mean it is not important! Samuel Johnson once said”people need to be reminded more that they need to be instructed.” And that’s case in today’s blog.
Once upon a time there was a Sunday school teacher who had a busy week and when he showed up to teach his class everyone noticed that he was not prepared. No one in the class said anything but they all knew. I know there are special circumstances where someone may have a busy week and be unable to prepare adequately this should be the exception not the norm. Preparation is key to being an effective bible teacher. So today I want to remind you of a few things…
1. Pray – This may seem like a no brainier but the first thing we should be as we begin each week is pray. pray for God to speak to you, pray for God to speak to your class, and pray that God would fill your class with people who are hungry for His word.
2. Prepare – If you show up week after week and are not “ready” for the lesson then your class will begin to dwindle down to a select few. Put the work in that it tales to teach the Bible with excellence. 2 Timothy 2:15 in the Amplified version puts it like this “ Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth.”
That’s it. Simple and nothing new. But I wanted to get that out there and just encourage anyone who leads people in Bible Study to strive toward these essentials.
