The Church is God’s plan. God wants to use the Church to get his redemptive message out to the world. Unfortunately the Church as a whole has settled for a “y’all come” mentality instead of living out The Great Commission of Matthew 28.
Here it is just in case you don’t know it.
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
The picture above is a great way to illustrate what the Great Commission is saying. We as Christians are all called to carry out the Great Commission in our everyday lives.
We are to find those who are far from Christ as you go about your daily lives. As we go about our lives we will come in contact with people who do not know Christ and it is our responsibility and privilege to share Christ with them through our actions and words. You don’t have to go over seas to do this. We do this in our towns and in our communities.
We are to teach others about Christ. A disciple is simply a learner or student. All of us are called to both be discipled and be a disciple maker. It’s not hard its just teaching someone what you are already doing. We all have people who are watching and following us. The question then become where are we leading them?
When someone receives Christ the next step in obedience is following through with believers baptism! This is such an awesome experience both for the person being baptized and for those who get to see this public testimony. It is an outward sign of an inward change. Also it is a commitment to the baptized person that the fellowship they are a part of will help them on their walk in Christ.
As we seek to live for Christ we also see to know His ways. When we read His word we learn more about Him and how to live for Him. We then teach these commands and promises to all those we come in contact with.
Disciples making disciples is what we as Christ followers should be about. One of the ways we can live out the great commission is outreach and evangelism. It may be the hard work of ministry but it is a worthy endeavor. The rewards of sharing Christ with others are beyond words.
At Trinity we are starting up GROW teams. Starting in October as GROW teams we will go out once a month on Tuesdays and visit people who have indicated they are interested in our church or Christ. Also we will encourage Sunday School classes to get teams together to visit your class members who have been missing or just need encouragement.
I hope you will plan on joining us as we seek to live out the great Commission here in the Lake Area!
