I was recently asked to speak at our community’s Baccalaureate service. It was a neat experience. I am used to speaking each week but usually to the same group of people, so speaking to a new group is always nerve racking.
As I prayed about what to speak on I remembered back to my high school graduation. I remember not having a clue what God wanted for me to do. I knew that God had a plan for me and I emanated to serve Him. I was just unsure how to get there.
I can honestly say 17 years later I had no idea my life would be this awesome. Student ministry was the furthest thing from my mind, I had always been a music guy. Marriage and a full house of kids was not on my mind I was only 18 ands single. But I knew that even though I could not see the road ahead God had a plan.
I am more certain of God’s sovereignty today than ever. We can’t see it all upfront and we don’t know all the answers but God is in control and I am ok with that. As long as we trust Him He will work it out in his time and his ways.
My child, never forget the things I have taught you. Store my commands in your heart. If you do this, you will live many years, and your life will be satisfying. Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
